Corporate Accountant

Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Corporate Accountant to support our financial department. The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization, including financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, compliance, and internal controls. This role assists the Controller in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, managing month-end and year-end closings, and overseeing accounting procedures.

Additionally, you will prepare and analyze financial and operational reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and providing insights to support business decisions. This position will also play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to drive strategic planning and performance management.

 

Here is what a typical days looks like!

  1. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.
  2. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  3. Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  4. Drive insights from financial data to support strategic business decisions.
  5. Prepare and/or review financial reports and provide variance analysis on budget vs. actual performance.
  6. Lead and facilitate financial review meetings with Operations to provide key insights and guidance.
  7. Serve as a strategic business partner, ensuring alignment with operational financial performance.
  8. Communicate financial data clearly to support informed decision-making.
  9. Oversee general ledger activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments.
  10. Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.
  11. Assist in the preparation of ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
  12. Other duties may be required to meet company objectives.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred)
  2. 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role preferred.
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS.
  4. Understanding of Canadian tax compliance and provisioning preferred.
  5. Experience in preparing and analyzing financial and operational reports.
  6. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in excel.
  7. A results-driven mindset with a commitment to excellence and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  8. A strong sense of ownership, accountability, and the ability to drive tasks to completion.
