Job Description

We have an exciting new role for Director of Business Development for a Top Tier One company in the GTA!

 

Purpose of the role:

The Director of Business Development – North America is responsible for driving profitable revenue growth across the region by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities. This role requires a hands-on commercial leader with strong manufacturing knowledge who actively engages with customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders to expand market presence, manage strategic accounts, and support long-term growth objectives.

Salary range: $160-$210K /year

Job Responsibilities:

 

Business Development & Growth Strategy

· Develop and execute the North American business development strategy aligned with corporate growth objectives.

· Identify target markets, customers, and applications that support profitable growth.

· Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline of new and expanded business opportunities.

Customer Engagement (Hands-On)

· Maintain direct relationships with key customers, OEMs, and strategic partners.

· Lead customer meetings, negotiations, and contract discussions.

· Act as the executive escalation point for major commercial and customer issues.

Sales & Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Partner with sales, engineering, operations, and quality teams to support RFQs, proposals, and product launches.

· Ensure customer requirements are clearly defined, feasible, and aligned with operational capabilities.

· Support pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with margin objectives.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis

· Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity across North America.

· Provide market insights to support product strategy and investment decisions.

· Identify risks and opportunities related to customer concentration and market shifts.

Forecasting, Reporting & Governance

· Own regional business development forecasts and pipeline reporting.

· Track opportunity progress, conversion rates, and revenue realization.

· Ensure adherence to internal commercial approval processes and ethics standards.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA is an asset

· 10+ years of experience in business development or sales leadership within a manufacturing environment

· Proven success developing new business with OEMs or Tier 1 customers

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, cost drivers, and pricing models

Leadership & Technical Competencies

· Hands-on, results-driven commercial leader

· Strong negotiation and relationship-management skills

· Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority

· High business acumen and ethical judgment

· Excellent communication and presentation skills

Working Conditions

· Significant travel across North America to support customer engagement and growth initiatives

· Flexible work location with regular customer-facing activity

· Availability to support customer needs outside standard business hours as required
