Extrusion Engineer

Job Description

Do you have experience in Aluminum Extrusion? 

If so, we have an exciting new role for a Extrusion Engineer for a top Tier 1 company in the Windsor area!

Primary Purpose of Position 

The Extrusion Engineer supports the cost estimating, design and analysis of aluminum extrusion profiles and fabricated parts. This role works closely with senior engineers, die designers, manufacturing, and sales to ensure extrusion profiles meet performance, manufacturability, and cost targets.  Supports engineering department goals and objectives.  Leads and/or supports engineering projects of varying complexity.  Reports to the Director of Engineering.

Salary range: $75-$110K/year + bonus

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cost estimating function for extrusion profiles and fabricated parts
  • Understand key cost drivers: billet weight, press size, alloy, yield, scrap, secondary operations
  • Lead or support engineering projects of varying complexity
  • Perform tolerance analysis of extrusions and fabricated parts
  • Review customer drawings and specifications for feasibility 
  • Support / Participate in design reviews with internal teams and customers
  • Analyze data and recommend solutions in support of departmental continuous improvement goals
  • Assist with root cause analysis for extrusion-related quality or performance issues
  • Work with manufacturing to support die trials, and process improvements
  • Assist with troubleshooting extrusion defects (twist, bow, surface issues, dimensional variation)
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to extrusion efficiency and scrap reduction

 

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
  • 3–5 years relevant work experience
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Aluminum extrusion processes
    • Secondary fabrication processes related to aluminum extrusions
    • Engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance analysis
    • CAD software (SolidWorks)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Cost estimating experience
  • Exposure to automotive OEM or Tier 1 environments
