What you will do:
Reporting to the Global Human Resources Director, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Meridian HSE programs. The incumbent will also be responsible for overseeing specific HSE programs across Meridian locations to assure compliance with corporate/global HSE programs and policies as well as applicable country, state/provincial related HSE regulatory requirements. The Global HSE Manager will also champion global projects as assigned to standardize best practice across all Meridian locations and achieve Corporate goals and objectives.
· Strategic HSE Leadership: Works with leadership team globally to ensure that HSE strategies and programs are in alignment with the overall strategic HSE framework for Meridian.
· Evaluate the Health, Safety and Environmental program through benchmarking activities that will assist in identify the gaps in each element to standardize the program.
· Standardize, evaluate, and improve HSE Key Performance Indicators such as safety indexes and metrics across the organization.
· Assist in the development and implementation of HSE programs and activities for all Meridian locations to achieve, maintain or exceed compliance with relevant regulatory requirements as well as comply with Meridian’s policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
· Direct and ensure all Meridian Locations develop standard operating procedures for HSE compliance and safety contingency plans.
· Manage the overall administration of H&S audits, PPE audits, Environmental audits, external supplier audits, wellness audits, ISO audits and ERT audits.
· Continuously improve upon accident investigation data, first aid and medical aid tracking system and create any reports as required, analyze safety concerns and trends.
· Support the management & implementation of design of new equipment and programs and ensure that New Equipment Sign Offs and Pre-start Safety documents are reviewed.
· Assist in writing, modifying and verifying Management System documents and procedures, and ISO 14001 documents / procedures, as related to safety, maintain registration with ISO14001 standard.
· Manage the training and professional development courses and seminars to ensure best practice.
· Support the JH&S Committees and initiatives.
· Assist with the development, design, and implementation of HSE risk management tool for Meridian.
· Review locations HSE incidents, standardize the process and ensure there is a standard process to communicate lessons learned and best practices to all Meridian locations.
· Support all Meridian locations in the development and implementation of an ERT program.
· Establish and direct regular weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual HSE meeting to review and discuss HSE performance with all Meridian locations.
· Oversee implementation of the safety talk program, it’s process and tracking for each Meridian location.
· Attend training and professional development courses and seminars to ensure best practice.
· Maintain required designation(s) and memberships regarding HSE.
· Manage the overall management and administration of the company’s Environmental Management System Globally, and environmental compliance obligations and spills response, awareness of regulatory changes and the communication with relevant regulatory bodies.
· Manage the Environmental Program Management, annual budget, ensure appropriate funds are allocated for environmental compliance programs, continuously improve environmental performance.
· Support internal/external environmental incident investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, their verification, and relevant communications.
· Other duties as required and special projects as they arise.
What you will bring:
1. Occupational Health & Safety certification & Post-secondary education in relevant environmental field (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Sustainability, Environmental Technology etc.).
2. 8+ years’ experience Health, Safety and Environmental Fields.
3. Working knowledge of applicable North American Health & Safety Acts, and related Regulations. Working Knowledge and/or relevant training in Environmental Legislation (North America wide)
4. Health & Safety Professional designation ( i.e. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
5. Certified Environmental Management System Lead Auditor [EMSLA Designation] or actively working toward designation (e.g. recognized Lead Auditor Course completed).
6. Auditor training for ISO 14000 or 45001 system
7. Working Knowledge and/or relative training in Environmental legislation
8. Industrial Hygiene knowledge and training
9. Demonstrated strategic expertise in training, performance management, environmental compliance, audits, health and safety programs.
10. Must have exceptional leadership skills; the ability to work with associates at all levels and influence appropriately and comfortable dealing with conflict situations in driving key initiatives.
11. Quick acting but deliberate; creating a sense of urgency in others. Capable of juggling multiple priorities and dealing effectively with changing and ambiguous situations. Can make things happen in a fluid environment without having to “own” the resources. Can work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
12. Supports, manages and initiates change within the organization, taking steps to remove barriers or to accelerate its pace.
